Hi, My name is Lisa Wood, and for many years worked in the acting world. I remember Harry sitting in the front row of The New End Theatre in Hampstead.It was,a play by Bernard Kops called The Hamlet of Stepney Green. Iwas playing Mrs.Stone,I must of made an impression on him with my best jewish yenta acting,because msny yesrs later I bumped into him in a theatre foyer, and he knew exactly who I was. He was the loveluest most normal actor I had ever met, just great. He was quite high up on The Equity Board at that time. Quite different to the woman who is in the same position. (Dont know if you have read the press today about Maureen Lipman complaining about Equity.
Just in case you still dont know Arthur Masons wife was Vera Day. We used to belong to the same gym.

I’m slightly younger than Harry Landis and met him after completing Military Service in 1952. About that time my suits were being made by a tailor called Alfie Maron who’s workshop was I think in Hanbury Street.
I’m sure Harry would have known Alfie and indeed many more fascinating people who became well known in later years.
Where indeed is Arthur Mason and that lovely girl he was often seen around with, I cant recall her name but she went on to be what was then called a ” Starlet “. Whatever happened to them both.

I went to University at QMC in the East End and worked there for a few years.

I was brought up in Hammersmith, and lived almost opposite an actor and actress – named Harry and Hilary Landis. It is good to see him still well.

My parents (now passed) bought their house in 1961 for less than £2000, and had to pay it off within 5 years, as the Council was going to re-develop it ‘shortly after’. Those terraced houses were built in 1880 – and are still standing, but now going for around £1m.

I wish Harry well.

Hi Harry,

Really great reading your memories of the east end wonderful atmosphere but tough especially when you where a young boy and no one had much, with the exception of a few who lorded it up over the poor,much the same in Manchester and Birmingham.
