For participants, i.e. me in the 70’s, there’s an awful lot of hanging around! This is exemplified by the photo of the band of the Coldstream Guards standing and waiting – I know how that feels. The cry was, “Hurry up and wait!!”

And then, as I described for last year’s event and as I’ll probably describe for the next, it’s the lament, ‘after the Lorn Mayors Show’. To explain for any time travelling readers like me I’ll simply say this – there’s a lot of shoe and boot cleaning going on after the parade because there are an awful lot of horses!

Just wanted to say that the last year’s Lord Mayor’s charity – Pitch Perfect – did give some wonderful opportunities to young people. My son, along with many others, not only got to play in a huge brass band led by LSO players at last year’s parade, they also got to play in the interval of an England v Pakistan test match at Lords this summer. I’m sure this year’s charity – Bear Necessities – will do equally well.
