I would imagine- no, I will say I KNOW- that living as Mr. Pedroli does would be one of the finest positions in the world, bested only, perhaps, by being Emperor of India, or by occupying some similar, elevated, seat.

Madge the cat does indeed look as though she could do double duty as a doorstop. Clever kitty.

Just went to the house today with a group of Americans.
I can honestly say I have never seen anything like it.
It was very atmospheric so much so that I don’t want to go back although it was fascinating.
It was pleasant to leave the house into the light of day and thank my lucky stars that I wasn’t born in the 17/18 hundreds
How anyone can bear to live there nowadays is beyond me

I discovered Spitalfields Life recently and think it’s fantastic, elegantly written with gorgeous photography, and this article is no exception.

Have been visiting this area for a while now, and every time I arrive, I feel a sense of place and can’t help thinking of this quote “I want to turn the clock back to when people lived in small villages and took care of each other”. Strange in the middle of one of the largest cities in the world.

I love your posts about the historic houses in Spitalfields. Of course ,I read all of your posts but these are my favourites and I savour each one.

My daughter works for the National Trust and I would love some Mum/Daughter time looking around this area as I know she’d love it too. Alas at the moment time does not allow but we will be there before too long.

Even though I badly wanted to visit Severs House in 2003, time didn’t permit and therefore missed the opportunity to meet Mick Pedroli in person. Thank you for this lovely interview with the man who carries on DS’s dream that we *can* step back in time, if only for a few hours.

It seems to me that this “house” is an authentic Work of Art and a deeply interesting one at that. The artists are Dennis and now Mick and we appreciate their effort in creating this magical work.
We need more artists like this to enhance our “ephemeral poetry of existence”
