Nice to come upon your article by chance. I am an American who lived in London from 1995-1998, and had a painting studio first underneath, and then on a second floor at the front of Spitalfields market, before we were kicked out to make way for a planned Stock Exchange building. I was part of a group that organized to try to block the razing of the old market, and I'm pleased to see that that destruction never happened. I don't imagine there are any artist studios left in the building, or not the warren of them that existed when I lived there, but thank you for the confirmation that it still inspires artists.

Wonderful ! It's true that drawing is essential to our visual literacy. Too often people are not encouraged enough to look at things carefully and observe. If I lived in London ,which i do not , or were retired, which I am not also, i'd love to be part of this drawing group.

I went to Art school in Manchester from aged 12 to 18 the only secondary school of its type in the country in those days (1960s)and I received a fantastic artistic education but real life has got in the way and i too must one day return to my artistic endevours.

Another good thing to have come out of the Princes Drawing School. My 10 year old son is one of the beneficiaries of their young artist programme. This is a scheme whereby children from state schools in various parts of London are, on the basis of a recommendation from their teacher, able to attend (at no cost) a weekly after school art club which is led by Prince's School postgrads. The clubs are held in community centres and the like in different London boroughs. Whenever I collect my son from his club I am always impressed by the wonderful atmosphere of calm and diligence and the way in which the children have really been encouraged to look. Hopefully my son will continue to get as much pleasure from drawing as members of the 'Drawing London' group clearly do.
