Phil Maxwell At The Bus Stop

September 25, 2016
by the gentle author

Contributing Photographer Phil Maxwell sent me this series of photographs taken in the East End over the last twenty years which succeed in capturing both the existential langueurs and intense emotional drama of collective anticipation which may be experienced every day at the bus stop

More mesmerising moments, daydreaming at the bus stop. Fascinating.

Sometimes; its the only time of the day when one can totally relax and think about things and perhaps map out ones next project. Mentally of course, forgot to bring a notebook a big word- flow is on. Time is suspended for a moment just waiting for London Transport the bus stop is king. Ok lets go on a journey now the wait wasn’t too long was it? John B.

Phil has captured some nice moments in this series.
People used to queue in an orderly manner once. Now they just form a disorderly mob, pushing and shoving like a football crowd.

I enjoyed the relief provided by the last picture: a bus a actually arrived! Having studied all the previous shots, I was getting a bit anxious myself.
