    My friend Kevin who was brought up on Canvey Island writes;

    “To be honest I don’t [recognise this]. The building in the foreground look like a cafe but it’s the structures in the distance that are peculiar, with what looks like a bridge, rather than a breakwater, and the conical white building is very odd. So I don’t think that the scene is of the south facing, river side of the island. Could be somewhere around Leigh Beck in the far east of the island or maybe along Benfleet Creek in the north of the island, in which case the wooden structure could have been an early version of the main bridge onto the island. The only white building that vaguely resembles the one in the picture is the Catholic church in Long Road, which might make the scene Thorney Bay…
