I think this was on the South side of Old Montague Street – I rescued the Lyons Tea sign by climbing up the drainpipe and prising up the iron things that held it in place and passing it down to a friend. This would probably have been in 1971 or ’72. I attended the London College of Furniture in Commercial Road. The whole area was grim, derelict and waiting for demolition. I remember going into the Synogogue which was very close by, on the same side of the street – it was open to the elements with old broken spined leather bound books scattered around.

Unfortunately I left the sign in a flat in South Kensington when I moved in 1973 – great photos!!

The first photo is in Bonner Street, Bethnal Green looking towards the now demolished Junior School.
